Wheat Procurement in Two Grain Rich States of India Crosses 100 Lakh Tonnes
Following a long winter season, the procurement of wheat in two major states of India, Punjab and Haryana is gradually picking up. As per reports, a record 103 lakh tonnes of wheat have been allocated for the two states.
On the one hand, Punjab grabbed over 5.62 million tonne of wheat, out of which government agencies have been allocated almost 99% of the total allocate stock and rest has been given to private traders.
Contrary to Punjab, Haryana caught hold of over 4.21 million tonne with an extra lot of wheat of over 1.18 lakh tone hitting the mandis in the state, exceeding the mark of total procurement to 4.21 million tonne.
Apparently, the Food Corporation of India (FCI) had got 7.53 lakh tonne out of the total procurement of wheat of Punjab, while over 6.09 lakh tonne had been taken from Haryana state.
As far as delay in the procurement of wheat in Punjab is concerned, many experts attribute this to the uncertain nature of the weather. As the meteorological department had signaled normal rains this year, the two grain rich states of India are expecting total production to reach a mark of 270 lakh tonnes this year.
