Chile May Boost Wheat, Corn Crops, Reducing Imports, USDA Says
Chile may harvest 1.596 million metric tons of wheat in the year that begins Dec. 1, up from an estimated 1.57 million this year, as farmers boosted planting, a unit of the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in a report posted today on its website. Imports may drop to 650,000 tons from an estimated 750,000 this year, according to the report.
Corn production may rise to 1.456 million tons in the year that begins March 1, 2012, compared with an estimated 1.356 million this year, the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service said. Imports may fall to 650,000 tons from an estimated 750,000 tons.
